You must use this procedure if you use a shared short code to differentiate messages meant for your account from messages intended for other accounts sharing the short code. This procedure is not necessary if you have a private short code.

NOTE: The following keywords are reserved by ExactTarget and unavailable for shared short code users:
    • END
    • CANCEL
    • UNSUBSCRIBE
    • QUIT
    • STOP
    • HELP
    • HLP

Use the following steps to create a shared keyword:

    1. Click the Interactions navigation tab.
    2. Click Messages.
    3. Click SMS.
    4. Click Shared Keywords. The SMS MO Shared Keyword Definitions workspace appears.
    5. Click the Request button from the toolbar.
    6. Enter a shared keyword in the Keyword field.
    7. Click the Check Availability link. The system compares the keyword to the other shared keywords already defined for the short code. If the keyword has already been used, repeat steps 6-7 until you find an available keyword.
    8. Click Save.

Once you have requested the keyword using the procedure above, follow the steps outlined in the application's user interface to complete the procedure. Requested keywords cannot be used until the entire procedure is complete.
