MailboxIQ Powered by Pivotal Veracity

This document contains conceptual and procedural information about using MailboxIQ with your ExactTarget account. You can use MailboxIQ to track the deliverability, reputation, and recipient platform preferences. This information includes metrics on how your messages perform in mobile platforms, social networks, search engines, and web- and software-based email clients.

About Mailbox IQ

MailboxIQ Powered by Pivotal Veracity places a tracking image inside your emails that allows you to get information on how your email is delivered and what your subscribers do with the email once they open your message. This includes the following information:

  • Whether email clients send your messages to the inbox or to spam folders
  • What platform your subscribers choose to interact with your message
  • When subscribers engage more often with your messages by day, time, and campaign
  • Whether your subscribers add your address to a whitelist or mark your messages as spam
  • Which social networks

Prerequisites

You must have this feature enabled by ExactTarget in order to use the information in this guide. Contact your ExactTarget for more information and to activate this feature.

Why Use MailboxIQ

Based on the data gathered by MailboxIQ, you can better tailor your email design and content to bring optimum results from your subscribers and customers. This data can provide you with the information you need to create exceptional emails sends. Pivotal Veracity presents this data in aggregate form.

How It Looks

Your email message looks the same as it normally does, except that it includes a transparent .gif file used for tracking purposes. This .gif file does not change how your email renders, and customers cannot view the tracking image.

How It Works

Insert the tracking pixel into your HTML email as shown in the example below. Your ExactTarget representative will give you an individual link to insert in the same manner as the example shown below:

<html>

<img src=" http://pvmiq.exct.net/img/clientID.gif" width="1" height="2" />

</html>

Once your subscribers interact with your email, you can log into your Pivotal Veracity account to view the metrics on your email sends.

Adding Campaign IDs

You can add a campaign ID to the tracking image link to help analyze segments of email jobs. For example, a link with a campaign ID looks like the example shown below:

<img src=" http://pvmiq.exct.net/img/ClientID.gif?pvci=091001XXXX" width="1" height="3" />

The campaign code tracks the emails in the campaign itself. You can pull back information on individual messages or on the campaign. For example, you can use different campaign IDs to track information for marketing or transactional sends or to differentiate between sales for different brands of goods or services.

The campaign ID must contain a maximum of 20 letters or numbers with no spaces or other characters. Campaign IDs must be unique for each campaign. Pivotal Veracity recommends adding the launch date to the beginning of the campaign ID, as in "20091117falljob". Each campaign report tracks information for 30 days from the start of the campaign.

Pivotal Veracity recommends using campaign IDs on sends larger than 25,000 messages only to ensure statistical relevance.
