Inbox Preview

The Inbox Preview feature is an integration with Pivotal Veracity. Inbox Preview is available from the application interface. Currently you cannot use Inbox Preview with the API.

What Is Inbox Preview

Inbox Preview is a tool available from the email workspace that shows you what your emails look like when viewed in different email clients. For example, you can use the Inbox Preview feature to see what your monthly newsletter looks like when subscribers view it using Outlook 2007. You can retrieve the reports in PDF format to distribute to the rest of your email approval or design team.

The Inbox Preview feature works together with the Send Preview feature. To use the Send Preview feature, you choose a list or data extension and then a subscriber from that list or data extension, and the Send Preview renders the email with the dynamic content choices and personalization that the particular subscriber would see. After you complete the Send Preview, you can click the Inbox Preview to see what the rendered email  looks like in different email clients.

Standard Package

The Inbox Preview Standard Package is enabled in all accounts, with a free trial. Most accounts can run 10 free Standard Reports during their contract period as part of the free trial. The parent and child accounts in an Enterprise have 20 free Standard Reports to share during their trial. At any point during or after your free trial, you can contact your account manager to purchase additional Standard Reports.

The Standard Package includes:

  • Standard Report: Previews of an email for two of the most common email clients: Yahoo! and Outlook 2007. These previews are provided through an interactive emulation of the email clients.
  • Access to Pivotal Veracity's Cross-Platform Design Guide, which contains guidelines for designing your emails for optimal appearance in any email client.

Complete Package

The Inbox Preview Complete Package is available for purchase and expands on the functionality in the Standard Package. At any point during or after your free trial of the Standard Package, you can contact your account manager to purchase a Complete Package.

The Complete Package includes:

  • Complete Report:
    • Previews of the email for two of the most common email clients: Yahoo! and Outlook 2007. These previews are provided through an interactive emulation of the email clients.
    • Screenshots for up to 10 email clients you select from a panel of dozens, including those used by businesses, consumers, international subscribers, and mobile devices.
    • Image and link validator
  • Access to Pivotal Veracity's Cross-Platform Design Guide, which contains guidelines for designing your emails for optimal appearance in any email client.

Support and Retention Policies

Once you click the Inbox Preview button, the workspace displays the Pivotal Veracity application. You can use the normal support channels for help with issues in this area, but the Pivotal Veracity application is not subject to the same availability guidelines as the rest of your email application. For example, the rest of your account could be available but Pivotal Veracity could have a scheduled maintenance window, causing the Inbox Preview feature to be unavailable.

Your account stores the history of the reports for the entire time you submit reports. However, Pivotal Veracity deletes screen captures after 30 days, so the value of previous reports diminishes over time.

Why Use Inbox Preview

Use inbox preview to optimize your emails to appear how you want them to in each of your targeted email clients. Different email clients treat HTML in different ways, so your message may have unexpected display problems in some email clients. By previewing what the email will look like in different inboxes, you can make adjustments to the email content to allow it to appear the way you want it to for all of your subscribers.
