Prerequisites for Using Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM

    Installation Prerequisite Checklist

    Review the following information and make sure your current system is ready for the Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation. If your system does not meet the prerequisites, part or all of the installation may fail.

    Check Server Hardware

    You can install the Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM web service proxy on the Dynamics CRM server or another server of your choosing. If the web service proxy is installed on a server different than your Dynamics CRM server, be sure to record the server name, organization, and port number so that the web service proxy can communication with your Dynamics CRM instance. Because ExactTarget uses the web service proxy to communicate with your Dynamics CRM instance in real time, ExactTarget recommends using a server capable of handling web service calls quickly.

    NOTE: If you set up Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM web service proxy on an IIS7 server, be sure to enable the IIS6 emulation on the server.

    Enable Your Server to Make and Receive Web Service Calls Over the Internet

    The server you install the web service proxy on must allow both inbound and outbound web traffic. Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM requires standard Internet traffic access in order to communicate with the ExactTarget system. Your organization may using networking technologies (such as proxy servers or DMZs) to control incoming and outgoing Internet access to your server environment. However, ExactTarget cannot diagnose, troubleshoot, or maintain these network technologies. You must keep your server accessible by the ExactTarget system in order to utilize Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

    Install .NET 3.0 or Above on Each Server

    Every server hosting a Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation must have .NET 3.0 or above installed on it. You must also install the runtime version of Web Service Enhancements 3.0 on the server. Download Web Service Enhancements 3.0 from this location:

    Uninstall Any Existing Instances of Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM

    If you are reinstalling Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM, uninstall any previous instances before running the installer. Use the Uninstall Wizard if possible, but uninstall manually if it becomes necessary.

    Have Your Account Information Available

    You will need the usernames and passwords to the following accounts to install Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM on your server:

    • The ExactTarget API username and password - this account will be used to authenticate incoming web requests from the ExactTarget system.
    • The Dynamics CRM Service User - this account will be used to connect to the Dynamics CRM web service. This account belongs to an Active Directory user that is the system administrator for your Dynamics CRM instance and the service user for your Dynamics CRM integration.

    The Installation Procedure

    Take the following steps to ensure your ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM integration is ready for Smart Capture.

    1. Make sure the integration is installed and functional.
    2. Validate the integration by logging into your Dynamics CRM instance, navigating to the ExactTarget tab and making sure you can view and access emails from ExactTarget within Dynamics CRM.
    3. Install the Smart Capture for Microsoft Dynamics CRM web service proxy.
    4. Enter the web service proxy's public-facing URL into your web browser and make sure the web service is operating correctly.
    5. Contact your ExactTarget implementation consultant and provide them with the following information:
      • The account number (MID) of your ExactTarget account
      • The ExactTarget API username and password used with your Dynamics CRM integration
      • The Dynamics CRM organization name to tie to Smart Capture
      • The full URL of your installed web service proxy, such as http://www.example.com:85/ETProxySer...ebService.asmx.
