This document contains conceptual and procedural information about unsubscribing and resubscribing subscribers in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

What is Unsubscribing and Resubscribing Subscribers in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

The accounts, contacts, and leads in your Dynamics CRM system can stop receiving email by unsubscribing. If the Account, Contact, or Lead would later like to be re-added to the subscriber list, you can resubscribe the Account, Contact, or Lead.

Why Unsubscribe and Resubscribe Subscribers in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

Depending on the preferences of your subscribers, they may wish to opt out or opt back in to your email sends. You need to track these preferences and enable the ability to change subscription status in order to honor your subscribers' preferences and maintain compliance with CAN-SPAM regulation.

How to Unsubscribe in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

Accounts, leads, and contacts who do not want to receive email marketing from your organization can unsubscribe from your email. This action automatically sets the Bulk Email  field of a Contact, Lead, or Account record to Do Not Allow without requiring you to make manual changes. This action also marks the Contact, Lead, or Account as unsubscribed in the ExactTarget application.

Subscribers unsubscribe by clicking the unsubscribe link in an email sent from ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

When Accounts, Leads, or Contacts unsubscribe, ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM sets them as unsubscribed both in Dynamics CRM and the ExactTarget application, regardless of the number of times they appear in Dynamics CRM. Though the Contacts, Leads, or Accounts may be selected in the future, the system does not send them email.

If you transition from ExactTarget list-based sending to Dynamics CRM-based sending, you  can optionally perform a one-time unsubscribe sync by exporting your master unsubscription list from ExactTarget sends and importing that ExactTarget master unsubscription list to Dynamics CRM. Be sure to set the Bulk Email flag to Do Not Allow with a corresponding email address match.

How to Resubscribe in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

The resubscribe feature allows you to resubscribe an Account, Contact, or Lead who has unsubscribed. You must have Administrative Data Management user permission to use this feature. Contact ExactTarget for more information on this user permission.

Use the following steps to resubscribe an unsubscribed Account, Contact, or Lead:

    1. Click the Marketing tab on the navigation bar.
    2. Click Accounts, Leads, or Contacts.
    3. Double-click the account, lead or contact to resubscribe. The Account, Lead, or Contact detail window appears.
    4. Click the ExactTarget button in the toolbar at the top of the recording and select Resubscribe Record.

The system removes the lead, contact, or account from the Dynamics CRM unsubscribe list and changes the Bulk E-mail value on the Administration tab to Allow.
