Validating the ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Installation

From $1

Perform the following steps to validate that the installation is working as expected. If you encounter issues while completing these steps, refer to the Installation Troubleshooting page.

Map Dynamics CRM Active Directory User to ExactTarget Web Service User

    1. Log in to your Dynamics CRM instance with a System Administrator account.
    2. Click the Settings tab in the navigation pane at the left side of the screen.
    3. Click the ExactTarget navigation pane option at the left side of the screen.  The ExactTarget page may not appear immediately when you access it for the first time.
    4. Click Map Users in the workspace.
    5. Select the Active Directory user you created as a prerequisite step to the installation.
    6. Click the Enable ExactTarget button on the toolbar.
    7. Select the ExactTarget API user from the dropdown list.  You received the API user information from ExactTarget as a prerequisite step to the installation.
    8. Click Save.
    9. Click OK.

If you use the multitenant feature of Dynamics CRM 4.0 to have multiple organizations, you need a separate ExactTarget account to map to each organization.  Please review the Multitenancy page for more information on multitenancy.

In an ExactTarget Enterprise edition account, map the parent account (where the API user exists) to the organization.  It is also possible to map an enterprise child account to an organization directly. You might want to do this when you have a large enterprise that uses ExactTarget across business units, but only some of those business units use Dynamics CRM. In this case, the integration treats the child ExactTarget account as a regular non-enterprise account.

All users in your ExactTarget parent account, child accounts, or business units can be mapped to users in Dynamics CRM. When these users access ExactTarget from their Dynamics CRM interface, they will be logged in as the user they are mapped to. This user mapping also controls the emails that a Dynamics CRM user can access. A user can only access the emails that are available to their user in ExactTarget. If the ExactTarget user is a member of multiple business units, the user can only access emails from their default business unit.

    Set Tracking Time

This part of the installation is recommended but not required.

    1. Navigate to Start.
    2. Select All Programs.
    3. Select ExactTarget.
    4. Select ExactTarget Configuration Editor. See the Additional Installation Information section for more information about the ExactTarget Configuration Editor program.
    5. Select the organization for which you installed ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM and click on the Connector tab.
    6. Enter the tracking time you want to use for the server, click the Update button and choose to restart the service.  If you've made no additional changes to the registry, no save will be made.

    Check Log File for Errors

    1. Open the C:\Program Files\ExactTarget\Logs directory.
NOTE: This is the default location; the actual location of this directory depends on the value you entered in the Destination Folder field of the Choose Connector/Utilities Directory step of the Installation Wizard.
    2. If the current time is after the Tracking time you will set in step 4, open the most recent log file, scroll to the bottom, and examine the file to see if any errors have occurred.  If an error has occurred you see text similar to Overall result: Error. If errors have occurred, see the Installation Troubleshooting section.
    3. Navigate to Start.
    4. Select All Programs.
    5. Select ExactTarget.
    6. Select ExactTarget Configuration Editor.
    7. Update the Tracking Frequency and Tracking Time fields (and any other fields as appropriate) to the values desired for installation.
