This document contains conceptual and procedural information about installing an instance of ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This includes step-by-step details for the full installation version of the installer program.

These examples represent common scenarios for configuring an ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation:

    1. Default configuration - install web services and the connector on the same server.
    2. Application server separated from platform server - install web installation on the application server and the connector on the platform server.
    3. Load-balanced web servers - install web installation on each web server and the connector only on the server hosting the Dynamics CRM database.
    4. Clustered database servers - install web installation only on the web server and the connector on only one of the database servers.
NOTE: Never install the connector on more than one server. Doing so may result in duplicate sends and inconsistent tracking data.

ExactTarget provides an installation program to install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.   Unzip the file you receive from ExactTarget and double-click the installation file to begin the installation process.   Agree to the license terms to begin the installation process.

Installing to a virtual computer (VPC)

To install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM on a VPC, you must access the installation file ExactTargetMSCRMIntegration.exe via a command prompt and provide an input parameter.  Perform the steps in this section and the continue with the general installation steps.

Follow these steps to start the VPC installation:

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type cmd and press Enter.
    4. When the command line window opens, navigate to the directory where you have saved the installation files.
    5. Type ExactTargetMSCRMIntegration.exe /vpc.

    Enter your ExactTarget Provisioning Information

ExactTarget will provide you with an API username and password.  You must enter that information to continue the installation and connect your Dynamics Server with the ExactTarget system.  Click Next when you are finished.

NOTE: Make sure the ExactTarget API user's date format matches the Dynamic Service User's date format.
NOTE: Customers using ExactTarget's S4 instance must click the Edit button next to Service Endpoint and enter the following URL to properly configure this installation:

    https://webservice.s4.exacttarget.com/Service.asmx

If you use the S6 instance, use the following URL:

Enter your Dynamics CRM Administrator Information

The installation process requires a valid system administrator's account.  This account information will be mapped to the ExactTarget API User information entered previously.  Click Next when you have entered the information.

Set Web and Connector Installation Locations

Choose the location to save the web and connector files and utilities.  If you are installing both the web and connector on the same server, the default locations will work for your installation.  If your installation involves separate application and platform servers, point this location to the application server where the CRM discovery service is available.  This service is not available on the platform server.

Enter your Dynamics CRM Discovery Service Information

If you host your web services for ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM on a different server than your connector, enter the information for the Discovery Services server during the installation.  This step helps the ExactTarget system find your Dynamics CRM server and push back tracking data.  Find the organization for which you want to install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM and select it.  You will have to repeat this installation for each organization.  Click Next when you are finished.

    Check your Prerequisite Results

The installation process checks your prerequisites and notifies you if anything failed the verification tests.  Click any entry with a red X next to it and click the Install button to try the installation again. The Send to View functionality must be enabled after the connector is installed, so you should take no further action on that item here.

    Import Dynamics CRM Customizations

The installation process publishes all CRM customizations, including those customizations specific to ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.  If you have customizations you don't want published at this point, set the option to import customizations to No.  Remember, all customizations are backed up to a separate file before new customizations are published in case you need to revert back to your original settings.

    Choose Your CRM Server

Choose the location of your CRM installation.  The default name is Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, although your name may be different due to a customized installation.

    Choose Your Installation Folders

Choose the locations for your web services and connector files and utilities.  If you are installing both components on the same server, the default locations will work for you.  Otherwise, choose folders on the appropriate servers and click Next when you are finished.

    Set Your Tracking Configuration

During the installation process, set your tracking configuration to one of four choices:

    1. No tracking information pushed back to Dynamics CRM
    2. Only aggregate tracking information pushed back to Dynamics CRM
    3. Individual tracking information for email responses (open, click, bounce, or unsubscribe) pushed back to Dynamics CRM.
    4. Individual tracking information for all recipients pushed back to Dynamics CRM.  Because of the huge amount of data this option may create, ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM creates a new custom table in the CRM database and uses SQL to access and handle the additional data.  Depending on your server's needs, you can also move this custom table to a new custom database.  If you wish to do so, change the associated registry entry to point at the custom table in the new custom database after installation.

These options must be set individually for each organization you manage using Dynamics CRM.  However, these settings can be changed at a later time, depending on your server load and tracking needs.

    Review Your Installation Settings

Examine the final screen to confirm your installation settings.  If you need to change anything, click the Back button and revise the necessary information.  Click Install when you are finished to install the software.  You will be notified of the customizations backup file created by the installation process; click OK to continue.

    Assign User Privileges

ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM creates two roles for user permissions for using the integration.  Make sure that all appropriate users are assigned either the ExactTarget Access Role or the ExactTarget View Only Role.

The ExactTarget Access Role allows users to view and use the ExactTarget section in Dynamics CRM. Other users beyond the administrator can use this role.
