Installation Prerequisite ChecklistFrom $1Table of contents
Before you attempt to install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM, be sure that your system meets the technical prerequisites. If your system does not meet the prerequisites, part or all of the installation may fail. Check Server HardwareNew tracking options in ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM may increase the load on your servers, depending on your settings and the number of organizations you manage with your Dynamics CRM server. While you can tailor the settings for ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to minimize server load by batching out large jobs and extending the listening times for servers before a time-out, it is still important to use robust servers to handle extremely large tasks or multiple organizations. In general, a dedicated server with 2GB of RAM that is running the Connector service can support up to 250,000 subscribers per email send/job. Ensure the Dynamics CRM 4.0 English Language Pack is Installed for Your Dynamics CRM InstanceThe ExactTarget customizations installed as part of the ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM integration support only the English language. If your default Dynamics CRM language is not English, you must still ensure that the Dynamics CRM English language pack is installed. The integration installation fails if you do not install the English language pack. You can download the English language pack from Microsoft. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer 8For optimum performance, use IE 8 with all applicable updates to run ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Enable Your Server To Make and Receive Web Service Calls Over the InternetYour server must be configured to allow both inbound and outbound web traffic. ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM requires standard Internet traffic access in order to communicate with the ExactTarget system. Your organization may use networking technologies such as proxy servers or DMZs to control incoming and outgoing Internet access to your server environment. In the event that installation or usage of the integration is not operating normally due to these technologies, it is your responsibility to resolve the issue. ExactTarget cannot diagnose, troubleshoot, or maintain these network technologies. If your CRM instance resides on a server that requires a VPN connection to access, you need to enable ports 80 and 443 on your firewall to allow communication with the the ExactTarget application via the Dynamics CRM integration. Port 80 allows for standard http traffic, and port 443 allows for secure https traffic. Check Dynamics CRM Site Name in Internet Information Services (IIS)Microsoft names the Dynamics CRM site in IIS "Microsoft Dynamics CRM" by default. However, custom installations may have a different name. Select the appropriate name during installation to continue the process. Update Dynamics CRM 4.0 with the Latest Rollup and All Other Applicable UpdatesYour Dynamics CRM installation should also include all updates and rollups (minimum of Rollup 2) before installing ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This ensures your Dynamics CRM software will be ready for any changes or updates to ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. If you haven't already installed Rollup 2, download the update from this link: Install .NET 3.0 or Greater On Each ServerYou must install at least .NET 3.0 on every server where you plan to install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Most users install both ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM components on one server, but you might install the web component separately from the connector component if the server that hosts your Dynamics CRM instance does not have a great deal of system resources. Install Web Services Enhancements 3.0 on Each Server Where Integration Is to be InstalledYou must install the runtime version of the Web Service Enhancements 3.0 on every server where you plan to install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You can download the Web Service Enhancements 3.0 from this location: Install SQL Server 2005 or 2008You must install SQL Server 2005 or 2008 on the server used in your Dynamics CRM instance. Uninstall Existing Instances of ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRMUninstall any previous instances of ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM before running the installer. Please uninstall using the Uninstall Wizard if possible, but uninstall manually if necessary. Create Active Directory User and Add New Directory User to Dynamics CRMCreate an active directory user in the domain where the Dynamics CRM server resides. The Connector requires this user to run. This account must:
After you create the active directory user, add that user to Dynamics CRM and make the user a System Administrator. To avoid active directory security issues, do not reuse an existing CRM user account. Make the Connector Service User a Dynamics CRM Deployment AdministratorExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 for Advanced and Enterprise editions includes an optional workflow solution that ties into the Dynamics CRM Workflow Engine. In order to enable the workflow feature, you must configure the Connector service user as a Dynamics CRM Deployment Administrator. If the service user does not have Deployment Administrator permissions, enable the workflow feature via the Configuration Editor after installation once the permissions have been granted. Also, ensure that your service user has the appropriate rights enabled on the Dynamics CRM databases:
Enable Connector Service user access to the Dynamics CRM DatabaseIn some server environments, it is possible for your service user to be a System Administrator in Dynamics CRM but not have sufficient read/write privileges in the Dynamics CRM database for the integration. This may occur with 64-bit database servers in conjunction with 32 bit Dynamics CRM application servers, or an environment where the database is on a different server. There is a prerequisite check as part of the installation notifies you if the access is not available. Export Existing CustomizationsExport your existing customizations before you install ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM as a best practice. Customizations will be programmatically merged during installation. As a safety measure, the installation process will automatically create a backup of your customization settings and save them to a file located on C:\Program Files\ExactTarget\Backup\Customizations. During the Dynamics CRM Customizations step of the installation process, you have the option to import customizations. If you choose to import the customization, the installer backs up your current customizations, merges ExactTarget's customizations, and publishes all customizations. Alternatively, you can choose to manually import and publish customizations by clicking No when prompted to import and publish customizations during the installation process. As part of the automatic installation process, several custom entities are added. Please refer to the Excel spreadsheet at the link below to review all of the applicable customizations and their locations. http://memberlandingpages.com/help/mscrm/4.0/ET_4.0_Customizations.xls Remove ISV Test/Demo Configurations (Optional)Before installing ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM, you can update the isv.config.xml file to remove or comment out any ISV Text/Demo configuration provided by default by Microsoft. This is an optional step. Obtain Provisioning Information from ExactTargetContact ExactTarget Customer Service or your account manager to get the ExactTarget-specific information you'll need for installation. You will receive a username and password of an API user that can access ExactTarget's web services. If this is the first time an installation has been performed, or if the username supplied by ExactTarget has never been used to access the ExactTarget application, log into the ExactTarget application with the username and password provided and reset the password. You can view the necessary permissions for the API user by following the steps below:
In some special situations (such as previewing a future ExactTarget build), you may receive a Service Endpoint value. If you receive this value, enter it on the Provisioning Information screen when you run the installation program for ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. If you do not receive this value, the default value will be correct.
