This document contains conceptual and scenario information about using data extensions in conjunction with your Salesforce instance. It is intended for use by those using the integration between their ExactTarget account and Salesforce.

Northern Trails wants to use opportunity relational data to personalize their customer emails. To accomplish this, they create a data extension and import their opportunity data into that data extension. Next, they write AMPscript functions that call the data from that extension and place it in their email at the time of the integrated send. Information from those sends is sent to a Salesforce report, and Northern Trails can review tracking information in their Salesforce instance.

Northern Trails wants to import data from Salesforce to use in a send from their ExactTarget account. First, they pre-segment the data as a report in their Salesforce instance. Next, they push the information to the ExactTarget application. They can also import the data directly into ExactTarget and use the Query Activity/Filter function to segment the data. Finally, they add the Salesforce contacts or leads as subscribers in the ExactTarget application and send the email.
: This information does not push tracking data back to your Salesforce instance.

Northern Trail Outfitters wants to use additional names in the From field of their incentive emails, including several different account representatives and their sales managers. First, they create a data extension in ExactTarget and import the user table from their Salesforce instance into that data extension. Next, they create multiple sender profiles in the Interactions tab of their ExactTarget account for each type of relationship owner. Finally, they specify the appropriate sender profile as part of the integrated sends to their Salesforce Reports or Campaigns.
