If you use the integration with Salesforce, you can set up your attributes by mapping them to fields in your Salesforce account. These attributes are used for personalization in your emails. When an attribute personalization string is included in an email that you send to your Salesforce Leads, Contacts, and Account fields, the personalization string will be replaced with the corresponding data from the Lead or Contact's record in Salesforce.
To set up your profile attributes, follow these steps:
If the advanced profile management feature is not enabled in your account, you will not see these sections in the navigation pane. Contact your account manager with any questions about the features enabled in your account.
All profile attributes defined in your account appear in the profile management workspace on the right.
This dialog box has a special tab, labeled Salesforce.
Note: See the important note about data types later in this topic.
All of your Salesforce Lead, Contact or Account fields appear in the appropriate drop down. Choose the appropriate field.
Whether or not the Lead or Contact will be able to modify the field from the Profile Center depends on whether you've selected the Read-only check box on the General tab.
If you designate that you want the attribute to be displayed on the Salesforce Profile Center, this will override the parameters of the Hidden check box for sends to Salesforce records only.
The data type that you select from the Data tab of the Profile Properties dialog box must match the data type defined for the Lead or Contact field in Salesforce. (For preference attributes, the Lead or Contact field in Salesforce must be Boolean.)
The application verifies that the data types match when merging personalized fields at the time of sending an email. If the data types do not match, the user attempting the send will receive an error, and the email will not be sent.
Setting up a preference attribute and mapping it to a Salesforce Lead or Contact field follows the same process described above for setting up profile attributes. The Lead, Contact or Account field that you map to the preference attribute must be a yes/no or true/false (Boolean) field.
To see what the Profile Center looks like to a Lead, follow these steps:
The Profile Center displays all attributes (profile and preference attributes) that are mapped to Salesforce fields and are marked to be displayed on the appropriate Profile Center. You'll see the same preview regardless of whether you access the preview from the profile management workspace or the preference management workspace.
Note the following about the Profile Center:
Repeat these steps to Preview the Profile Center for Contacts.
