Adding Custom Links in Salesforce to Access the ExactTarget Application

From $1

Though mass and one-off emails can be sent from within Salesforce, users must still create emails within ExactTarget.  Using custom links, you can provide each user one-click access to the ExactTarget application without having to remember login credentials - the integration link automatically provides those credentials.

Create Custom Fields at the User Level in Salesforce

Within Salesforce, create two custom fields at the User Level:

    1. ET Username
    2. ET Password

Follow these steps to create a custom field for the Users object in Salesforce:

    1. Log in to your Salesforce instance.
    2. Click Setup in the upper-right corner of the screen.
    3. In the navigation column at the left, click the plus sign next to Customize under the App Setup heading.
    4. Click the plus sign next to Users.
    5. Select Fields.
    6. Click New.
    7. Select the Text radio button and click Next.
    8. Enter the Field Label, Length, and Field Name in the appropriate text boxes.
    9. Click Next.
    10. Select the profiles you want to have access to this field and click Next.
    11. Click Save.

    Update Salesforce User Properties

Update each user record in Salesforce with the appropriate ExactTarget username and password.  Follow these steps to access your user records:

    1. Log in to your Salesforce instance.
    2. Click Setup in the upper-right corner of the screen.
    3. In the navigation column at the left, click the plus sign next to Manager Users under the Administration Setup heading.
    4. Click Users.
    5. Click Edit next to the user you wish to edit.
    6. Enter the appropriate ExactTarget username and password information.
    7. Click Save.

Create Custom Link to the Email section in the ExactTarget Application

To provide users direct access to the Email portion of the ExactTarget application, you can add a custom link to any object.  When creating the link, set the type to URL and the link URL equal to the following:

    https://members.exacttarget.com/login.aspx?username={!User_ET_Username}&password={!User_ET_Password}&entityType=email

You can place this link on the Lead, Contact, and Campaign objects, as these are the areas where a user can send an ExactTarget email.

Create Custom Link to the Tracking section in the ExactTarget Application

ExactTarget for Appexchange contains a custom object labeled Email Results that stores aggregate tracking results for sends to Salesforce Campaigns and Reports.  The ExactTarget application also provides the same results, where you can also view detailed lists of which Leads or Contacts bounced, opened emails, clicked links or unsubscribed,

To provide users direct access to the Tracking portion of the ExactTarget application, add a custom link to the Email Results object following this click path:

    1. Log in to your Salesforce instance.
    2. Click Setup in the upper-right corner of the screen.
    3. Click the plus sign next to Create under the App Setup heading.

    5. Click Email Result.
    6. Select Custom Buttons and Links.
    7. Select New.
    8. Add the link information.
