This document contains scenario, conceptual, and procedural information regarding the integration of the ExactTarget application and Webtrends. You can use the information provided by Webtrends to better identify the interests and habits of your subscriber and provide them with highly targeted information designed to make that subscriber take a specific action. PrerequisitesYou must have a Webtrends account in order to use the information in this document. You must also contact your ExactTarget representative to set up the integration with your ExactTarget account and your Webtrends account. Finally, you should have a working knowledge of SQL in order to write the query activity that moves data between data extensions. What Is the ExactTarget and Webtrends Behavioral Remarketing IntegrationExactTarget for Webtrends takes information captures via Webtrends regarding a user's online browsing and shopping habits and imports that information into ExactTarget. That information is stored in data extensions for use in email sends. You can use ExactTarget for Webtrends to retrieve information for lead generation or for eCommerce functions, such as abandoned carts or previous purchases. You can also use microsites and landing pages with an RSS feed to overlay your tracking data with Webtrends information. Why Use the ExactTarget and Webtrends Behavioral Remarketing IntegrationYou can use that information to target that user with more specific information regarding their browsing and shopping habits. For example, if one of your subscribers buys a certain product on a regular basis, you can prompt them to make further purchases by emailing them coupons for similar products or to buy more of a product with a bulk discount. ScenarioNorthern Trail Outfitters uses Webtrends information to track the shopping behaviors of their subscribers and send them highly targeted information regarding their preferred products and areas of interests. Every day, Northern Trail Outfitters imports information taken from their Webtrends account into their ExactTarget account. They use that information to match up their email subscribers with the behavioral information from Webtrends. For their spring product debut, Northern Trail wants to find all subscribers that have browsed for or purchased hiking boots from the Northern Trail website in order to make them aware of special hiking boot offers. For the subscribers that purchased boots in the past, Northern Trail can offer a discount on new boots in general. For those subscribers that abandoned carts containing boots, Northern Trail can offer a discount on the specific brand of boots that the subscriber abandoned. Northern Trail creates two data extensions for each type of information imported into the ExactTarget application:
Each data extension includes fields that contain information on the following items:
Northern Trail then creates a file location information that points to the Webtrends secure FTP site and a file transfer activity to import the information from Webtrends to their ExactTarget account. Northern Trail also sets up import and query activities that takes the data from the files transferred from Webtrends and moves it into the Staging and Permanent data extensions. Finally, Northern Trail uses a program that automates these activities as a daily process that copies data from the Staging data extension to the Permanent data extension, transfers and imports the new data from Webtrends, and populates the new data in the Staging data extension. How to Integrate Webtrends Data with your ExactTarget AccountTo integrate Webtrends data with your ExactTarget account, you must complete the procedures listed below. How To Create the Staging and Permanent Data ExtensionsThe ExactTarget for Webtrends integration uses two data extensions to store information from Webtrends for use in the ExactTarget application.
