ExactTarget Application System Requirements

From $1

This document contains the system requirements for workstations that access the ExactTarget application. We recommend that you distribute this document to the appropriate IT and system administration personnel at your organization before deploying the ExactTarget application.

Note: Occasionally, the critical updates that Microsoft issues for Internet Explorer or Windows can interfere with the normal operation of the ExactTarget application. Before you install a critical update, please contact ExactTarget Global Support to find out whether the update has any known compatibility with the ExactTarget application. You can find contact information for Global Support on the Contact Us page.

    Recommended Screen Resolutions

    Minimum: 1024x768

    Recommended: 1280x1024

    Recommended and Supported Browsers

Use the following recommended browsers for the best experience when using the ExactTarget application.

    • Firefox 6
    • Firefox 7

The following supported browsers may cause some ExactTarget application features to behave in unexpected ways:

    • Internet Explorer 8
    • Internet Explorer 9
    • Chrome 14
    • Chrome 15
    • Safari 4
    • Safari 5

The following are unsupported browsers. If you are using one of these browsers, you should upgrade to one of the versions above:

    • Internet Explorer 7
    • Firefox 3.6

    Browser Requirements

In addition to the version requirements, please note the following:

    • Full Install: You must have had a typical (full) install of Internet Explorer. If the minimal or a custom install has been performed, you are likely to experience difficulties using the ExactTarget application.
    • Cookies: The ExactTarget application uses the cookie feature in Internet Explorer. If you choose to disable cookies on a user's system, the user will not be able to log in to the application. For the application to function properly with cookies disabled, you need to add the ExactTarget application URL (http://members.exacttarget.com/ or https://members.exacttarget.com) as a trusted site in users' Internet Explorer configurations
    • Temporary Internet Files: In order for the ExactTarget application to function properly, each user's browser must be set to check for newer versions of stored pages automatically, which will prevent errors related to outdated stored information. (Under Internet Options, open the temporary Internet files settings and select Automatically.)
    • Saving Encrypted Pages: The encrypted pages in the ExactTarget application need to be saved to disk. In the advanced security settings under Internet Options, make sure that the Do not save encrypted pages to disk setting is not selected.
    • Pop-up blocker: If you're running Windows XP SP2, you need to add the ExactTarget application URL to the list of sites that are allowed to use pop-up windows.
    • Error Reporting Tool: If you use the Internet Explorer Error Reporting Tool, which is a Microsoft feature for Internet Explorer that allows you to send error reports to Microsoft (see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...collection.asp), note that any report sent to Microsoft regarding a browser error experienced while running the ExactTarget application may include subscriber data from your database. To ensure the confidentiality of your data, ExactTarget recommends that you choose not to send Microsoft an error report if prompted to do so during an ExactTarget application session.

    Bandwidth Requirements

The response time you experience with the ExactTarget application will be consistent with the performance you currently experience with other web-based applications. When evaluating any web-based application, you should consult with your IT department to best assess how that application may perform on your network. The faster the data speed on your network, the better response time you'll achieve with the ExactTarget application.

The ExactTarget application requires DSL (guaranteed 256K), cable modem, T1, T3, fractal T1 with at least 256K, or other equivalents.

Best Practices and Performance Troubleshooting Tips

Here are some basic best practices to share with your users, to minimize the number of support issues that your organization will experience:

    • Have users either save the ExactTarget application URL (use https://members.exacttarget.com/ for optimal security) to their Favorites menu or add a shortcut to their desktops, to eliminate the risk of inputting the URL incorrectly.
    • To achieve optimal performance of the ExactTarget application, users should close all non-critical software applications while accessing the ExactTarget application. Having multiple applications open simultaneously will likely decrease performance.
    • Users should always choose the Log Out option from the ExactTarget application menu bar to close out of the ExactTarget application. Closing the Internet Explorer window (without logging out) and then logging in again continuously can cause performance issues.
    • If users appear to be experiencing performance issues with the ExactTarget application, try accessing other web sites to ensure that the problem is not with your organization's Internet connection.

    Scheduled Maintenance

Maintenance is performed on the site every Friday night at 10:00PM Eastern through Saturday morning at 4:00AM.

    • Maintenance time: 10:00PM Friday to 4:00AM Saturday (Eastern).
    • Standard duration: 6 hours.
    • Potential impact:
      • Possible inability to log in.
      • Possible inability to perform API calls.
      • Slower-than-normal system performance.
      • Emails scheduled for this timeframe may not be sent until the application is back online.

    ExactTarget Integrations

    ExactTarget Integration with Salesforce

If your organization uses the ExactTarget integration with Salesforce, please note that the ExactTarget functionality within Salesforce supports the same browser and operating system configurations as Salesforce. However, the ExactTarget application itself may not support all such configurations; you may be unable to log in to or use the ExactTarget application even though you can use the ExactTarget functionality within Salesforce. See the rest of this system requirements document for details on what the ExactTarget application supports.

ExactTarget Integration with Microsoft Dynamics CRM

If your organization uses the ExactTarget integration with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, you must use Internet Explorer (not Firefox) to access the integration. See the ExactTarget for Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation documentation for more specific information.
